Beyond Broken Exhibition 2018

Celebrating the magnificent human spirit of eight people I had the pleasure to photograph and speak with for this exhibition.

There are not many of us who get through life without breaking…limbs, bodies, minds, hearts and homes…forever fragile and teetering perilously on the edge of harm both real and imagined. Some of us start life broken, some of us break along the way and some of us in order not to break stitch ourselves up so tight that we also never fully live. Having spent over 10 years as a counsellor I sometimes get to walk along side the broken pieces of people’s lives. There we sit…our hearts wide open, face to face with our humanity, unflinching, trusting…as true and vulnerable as we can possibly get. Nothing is more beautiful and courageous. In those moments I always feel it’s me that gets to learn the most. I hope the magnificent humans in this exhibition move you and encourage you to embrace your broken pieces like they have done for me. I hope they too remind you that there is humour, breathtaking love and beauty, deep inner strength and unexpected wonders along the wonky path that winds us beyond broken.
