The Good Room
With age unveiling the bias of my own privilege, I can see my outspoken criticism of ‘a woman’s place’ became like a rejection of my mother.
The Good Room searches for some redemption in celebrating the transcendent ingenuity of post war mothers and lovingly curated objects. It touches on the vices that alleviated a longing for more, and in her absence from each frame hints at the sovereignty denied. Above all it pays homage to my mother and the extraordinary women of her generation.”
At a more personal level this series traces the broken and continuing threads I carry of my mother. It retells her story taking tentative steps to reveal fragments she thought should be hidden, and which now find a home in our shared search for something more truthful.
